Fluidity in social relations in Ulucak Höyük from 6850 through 5700 cal. BC
Özlem Çevik
Ulucak Höyük is located in İzmir, central-west Anatolia. With its well preserved building sequences, covering a time period spanning more than a thousand years (6850-5700 cal BC) Ulucak is a key site for understanding the settlement and society through the Neolithic period in Aegean Turkey. By combining multiple lines of evidence from subsistence, settlement layout, building’s plans and storage facilities through clay images and personal ornaments this presentation aims to discuss how household membership was gradually changed over time, from the early 7th through early 6th millennium BC, at the site.
Özlem Çevik studied archaeology in Ege University, İzmir. She received a master’s degree and doctorate degree (2004) from the same university with a dissertation titled “Urbanization process in Anatolia”.
